The Latest IDEAL News!

What a great few weeks for the IDEAL network!

We just wrapped up the Northeast Propane Show in Worcester, and it was fantastic to see so many familiar faces while also meeting new people and making new connections. Trade shows are always busy, but there is something different about having the opportunity to sit down face-to-face, shake hands, share a conversation, and talk about what’s happening in our industry.

And this year, those conversations felt especially meaningful.

We heard again and again about the dedication to independent fuel and HVAC companies and the desire to see these businesses remain strong, locally owned, and part of their communities for generations to come. There is a real commitment across our industry to supporting the companies that know their customers, employ their neighbors, and keep their communities moving. That commitment matters—and it is a big part of why IDEAL exists.

Networking in person reminds us that behind every company name is a person, a team, and a relationship. A quick conversation at a trade show can turn into a new resource, a solution to a problem, a business opportunity, or simply a connection you can pick up the phone and call when you need help. That direct access is one of the greatest benefits of the IDEAL Partner Network.

As we move into August, we're putting the spotlight on our Equipment Vendor Partners. From equipment and technology to the products and expertise that keep your businesses running, these Partners are an important part of the IDEAL network. We'll be highlighting who they are, what they offer, and how they can support your team.

This is all part of our lead-up to Partner Appreciation Month in October, when we'll celebrate the incredible companies that stand behind our Member-Owners and believe in the mission of IDEAL.

Having a direct line to Partners who understand—and believe in—the importance of independent businesses is crucial to our success. Keep making those connections. Ask questions. Pick up the phone. Stop by their booth. Start the conversation.

The stronger our relationships, the stronger our cooperative.

And after a summer full of great connections, I have a feeling we're just getting started!

Happy to help,

Amy West - Cooperative Administrator

A Big IDEAL Shout-Out to Ambassador Barry Knox!

A huge thank you to IDEAL Ambassador Barry Knox for all he brought to the Northeast Propane Show! Barry truly is a jack of all trades—from helping with booth setup and jumping in when things went awry, to making sure everyone who stopped by felt welcome.

And, of course, you can't miss that big Barry smile and his ability to strike up a conversation with just about anyone! Whether he was connecting with a longtime Member-Owner, meeting a potential new member, or helping behind the scenes, Barry was always ready to pitch in.

We appreciate you, Barry! IDEAL is stronger because of ambassadors like you.

The IDEAL Equipment Vendor Partners

Meet the Team: Equipment Vendor Partners – Part One

If the Northeast Propane Show reminded us of anything, it’s that relationships matter—especially when you’re running an independent fuel or HVAC business.

Throughout August, we’re putting the spotlight on our Equipment Vendor Partners, the companies behind many of the products, equipment, technology, and solutions our Member-Owners rely on every day. These Partners do more than supply equipment. They bring industry knowledge, technical expertise, product support, training, and a willingness to work alongside independent companies to help them compete and grow.

Having access to the right equipment is important. Having a direct relationship with the people who know that equipment inside and out can be even more valuable. Whether you’re evaluating a new product line, troubleshooting an issue, looking for training, or exploring ways to improve your operation, your IDEAL Partner Network gives you a place to start.

And that’s really the value of the cooperative model: you don't have to figure it all out alone.

As you meet the Equipment Vendor Partners featured throughout this month, take a few minutes to learn what they offer and where they can help. Reach out, ask questions, and start a conversation. You may discover a product, resource, or relationship that makes a real difference for your business.

Strong businesses need strong partners—and we're proud of the companies standing alongside our Member-Owners.

Connecticut DSS Releases New Energy Assistance Plan: Still Fails to Follow the Law

DSS has released its proposed LIHEAP plan for the upcoming heating season, including oil reimbursement options of 55 cents per gallon Margin Over Rack (MOR) or 35 cents per gallon Discount Off Retail (DOR). Industry representatives argue that the plan fails to comply with state law by eliminating county pricing adjustments and not basing oil reimbursement on the price on the actual day of delivery, creating significant challenges amid market volatility.

The plan also includes $1.2 million for heating system repairs/replacements and clean, test, and tune services, while propane and kerosene will be reimbursed at the vendor’s standard retail price on the delivery date. CEMA maintains that the proposed pricing is unworkable, reduces vendor participation, and does not meet the legal requirement to maximize participation in the program.

IRAN Update: Strait of Hormuz Remains a Key Energy Market Concern

The Institute for the Study of War’s August 4 update highlights continued uncertainty surrounding the future of the Strait of Hormuz, as U.S. officials and Iranian negotiators offer differing interpretations of an emerging arrangement governing the strategic waterway. The Strait remains critical to global energy markets, with disruptions posing risks to oil and LNG supplies and contributing to continued market volatility.

Negotiations appear focused on establishing terms for safe commercial passage, but significant questions remain regarding Iran’s role in managing the waterway and the durability of any agreement. For fuel marketers and consumers, developments surrounding Hormuz remain an important factor to watch as they could have a direct impact on global crude prices, supply costs, and ultimately retail fuel pricing.
